Equipment problems causes power outage for thousands across the Midlands

Power outages drop around the Midlands since Monday's storms

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH)-- According to a representative at SCE&G, thousands were without power in Lexington and Richland counties Friday.

The spokesperson stated that at approximately 1: 55 p.m. due to a problem with a piece of an equipment in the system, the system failed and a power outage occurred.

The power outages affected approximately 8,6000 customers. By 3:30 p.m. that number had decreased to 1,300 as the company sent out a crew to inspect the area and work on restoring the issue.

Lexington Police posted to their Twitter page that Park Road between Weatherstone Road and Foxglen Road was closed due to power lines being down.

Several other reports across the Downtown Columbia area were reported as well.
