"He's my guardian angel" 9-year-old saves man trapped under car for an hour and a half
Sumter, SC (WACH)-- A nine-year-old boy in Sumter is being called a hero after rushing to help his neighbor. The boy was outside playing over the weekend when he heard cries for help. Allen Clemmons was convinced he was going to die after his mustang pinned him to the ground on Saturday.
I was asking God to help me...He gave me that last breath to holler. It rolled off the blocks and dropped on me. I was trapped, couldn't move. I was up under it for probably an hour and a half," says Clemmons.
An hour and a half felt like an eternity, until his call for help was answered.
"I was getting ready to shut my eyes and say that was it. Then that boy showed up. You don't know what a relief that was," says Clemmons.
Young Malachi Coffey quickly ran to help. Coffey's mother says he was familiar with a jack after watching his uncle work on cars. That likely saved 65-year-old Allen Clemmon's life, and he's forever grateful. .
"I knew he could do it and he did it. If it hadn't been for that, I might not have taken another breath. I was hurting so bad on my side where the car fell on me. I couldn't hardly breathe but he did it," says Clemmons.
While the young hero waits for Clemmons to recover, he has a message for people listening.
"Always help people no matter how big you are or how small you are," says Malachi.
Clemmons is recovering from six broken ribs and a fractured pelvis. He says he's determined to get back home in less than two weeks. And he looks forward to thanking the little boy who saved his life.
