4-year-old dies, mother charged after taping daughters mouth shut deputies say
LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WACH)-- The Lexington Sheriff's Department has charged a woman in connection with her 4-year-old daughters death.
Cynthia Estrada-Lopez was arrested Friday morning and charged with homicide by child abuse according to arrest warrants.
The 24-year-old is accused of abandoning her child and taping her mouth shut.
“Based on evidence collected since the death of the child, investigators believe Estrada-Lopez restrained her daughter in the child’s bed, taped her mouth shut and abandoned her the evening of July 31,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said.
When Lexington County EMS arrived at the families home that evening, the child was unresponsive and pronounced dead at the hospital that night.
As of Saturday morning, Estrada-Lopez was denied bond. She is being held at the Lexington County Detention Center.
Koon said the investigation into the child’s death is still open.
This is the second case in one day where a mother was charged in their child death.
