Lexington Co. accident results in one fatality

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WACH) - A single-car accident on Saturday night resulted in one fatality, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Around 9:40 p.m., the driver of a 2003 Chevy SUV was travelling north on Willow Forks Road when the driver went off the right side of the road, hitting a tree.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the vehicle, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified the victim as Marty Shealy, Jr., 33, of Batesburg. Fisher determined the cause of death as traumatic injuries related to the impact of the crash.
