COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) -- Those working in the hospitality industry say Hurricane Florence brought some extra challenges. Thousands of people evacuated from the South Carolina coast and many decided to head to the Midlands. The General Manager for the historic Inn at USC says the hotel worked to make sure the evacuees were comfortable and felt at home.
He says, “with the evacuees, we try to be a little extra accommodating and make sure they have everything they need, you know bottles of water, extra little things like toothpaste and that kind of stuff". Those who stayed at the hotel were able to utilize any on-line discounted rates, as well as AAA discounts for their stay.
Many of the workers at the hotels across the state had to work, even though their homes or family's homes were affected by Florence.
