Man accused of hitting Summerville officer with car charged with attempted murder

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) — Summerville Police have arrested two men after an officer-involved shooting on White Gables Drive Friday morning.

North Charleston resident Gleenwood Redden, 20, is being charged with attempted murder after police say he hit an officer with a vehicle.

Officers were responding to reports of two men breaking into cars in the White Gables Subdivision when they found the suspects in a vehicle, according to police.

Redden was driving the car when police say it struck an officer. The officer fired at the suspects and hit both, according to police.

Police say Redden left the scene in the vehicle, which was found later in the Pine Forest Subdivision on Congressional Boulevard.

Redden was arrested later Friday, and taken to Trident Medical Center with a gunshot wound.

19-year-old Xavier Hunter of North Charleston was the passenger in the car, according to police.

He was arrested at the scene of the incident, and also taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound in the leg. He is being charged with breaking into motor vehicles.

Both were released from the hospital on Saturday, and are being held at the Dorchester County Detention Center.
