Man arrested in Gale River Rd. murder after returning to crime scene


COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH)-- Deputies with the Richland County Sheriff's Department have arrested one man who returned to the crime scene after fatally shooting a 19-year-old early Friday morning.

At approximately, 2 a.m. deputies responded to a shots fired call on the 100 block of Gale River Road.

Upon arrival deputies found 19-year-old Khalil Cook lying in the front yard of his home and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Approximately two hours after the shooting deputies say an arrest was made after 20-year-old Louis Corbett IV returned to the crime scene.

Investigators determined that Corbett and Cook were acquaintances and that the altercation stemmed from drugs.

An autopsy was performed and Coroner Gary Watts determined that the cause of death was due to a gunshot wound to the upper torso.

Corbett has been transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. He has been charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
