Man attacked while loading boat at Jake's Landing, suspects still at large

LEXINGTON, SC (WACH)--- David Branham said around nine o clock Sunday night he was attacked by several men in a Chevy truck while trying to load his boat at Jake’s Landing.

The 55-year-old said he was trying to back his truck onto the loading dock but couldn’t see. When he asked the driver to turn off his front lights things quickly took a turn. “One of them started cursing at me and hollering at me, and so I just got back in the truck,” Branham said. “I feel way fortunate, they could have killed me you can’t hit folks in the head like that."

One of the men got out, walked to Branham’s truck and started punching him through the window. Branham has injuries to his head, eyes, ears, and legs.

Adam Myrick with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department said the agency is searching for who’s responsible.

Right now, investigators are reviewing surveillance video and increasing patrols in the area. “We just don’t have very much to go on in this case,” Myrick said. “One thing we are really hoping is to hear from the couple that helped the victim.”

Deputies said two good Samaritans found Branham on the ground near his truck and called for help. Branham hopes to find them. “I feel way fortunate, they could have killed me you can’t hit folks in the head like that,” Branham said. “As easily as he did that to me he would do that to somebody else, he needs to be caught.”

A $1,000 reward is being offered for any information leading to an arrest. Deputies warn people to be aware of their surroundings.
