Man killed during collision on I-26 in Lexington identified
LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WACH) – The Lexington County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the man killed during a car collision Wednesday morning.
According to Coroner Margaret Fisher, 19-year-old Austin William Dugar died at the hospital due to injuries he sustained in the collision.
Dugar was wearing a seat belt at the time, but was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes on Interstate 26 in a 2014 Chrysler sedan around 5:30 a.m.
Fisher says while Dugar was presumably attempting to correct his direction of travel, he stopped his car perpendicular to the roadway and was struck by a 2018 Toyota pickup truck.
No one was in the car with Dugar and the other driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the collision.
Dugar was a Dutch Fork High School alum and a senior caption on the soccer team.
He was enrolled at College of Charleston at the time of his death.
The family has started a fundraiser to help with funeral costs.
