Midlands man dies from cardiac event while driving in his car
COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) – The Richland County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the man who died while driving in his car Tuesday.
According to the Coroner Gary Watts, Gary Coates was driving on Links Crossing Drive in Blythewood when he left the roadway and struck a tree.
AN autopsy revealed that Coates died on scene after he suffered from cardiac arrest that caused his death prior to the crash. The death has been ruled natural.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
