COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) - One of the biggest donation days in the Midlands kicked off Tuesday at midnight with the start of Midlands Gives.

Donations for Midlands Gives began at midnight Tuesday and will run until noon Wednesday.

The annual event usually lasts 24 hours, but due to technical difficulties with their website officials have extended the fundraiser 12 additional hours.

Organizers have also added a second website here which will help process donations made.

Powers will now take place Tuesday at 7pm and 11pm and at 5am, 7am, 9am and 11am Wednesday.

This year, the public is invited to give online and join Central Carolina Community Foundation, along with more than 380 nonprofits and supporters.

Columbia residents can donate online by selecting their nonprofits of choice from the catalog of 383 participating local charities.

All donors have to do is enter their credit card information to make a minimum donation of $20 or higher. Donors can give to one charity or select multiple charities to receive gifts in one secure transaction.

All funds donated during Midlands Gives will go directly to each donor's chosen nonprofits, minus credit card and processing fees.

This year's interactive event will take place at the new Spirit Communications Park located in the Bull Street development in downtown Columbia. Columbia residents can also donate at the park.

Residents are encouraged to come out for the free, family-friendly event. The Nonprofit Marketplace will have tables manned by 70 local nonprofits at the stadium from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Parking is also free for Tuesday's activities.

There will be food and drink concessions during lunch from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., a Happy Hour with food, beer and wine concessions from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., a live concert from the nonprofit Heart N' Soul band from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and a meet and greet with Columbia Fireflies' mascot, Mason, from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Tuesday's event will culminate at midnight Wednesday where the final results of Midlands Gives will be revealed.

As of noon Wednesday, Midlands Gives has raised more than $1,592,181.
