RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WACH) — A little over a month after the incident, deputies say no charges will be filed in a shooting that killed a Midlands man.
On Nov. 4 deputies with the Richland County Sheriff's Department say James Boyer Jr. was shot in the chest in the 400 block of Providence Plantation.
During their investigation, deputies say an argument led to the fatal shooting of the 39-year-old.
Richland County Coroner Gary Watts says Boyer Jr. was transported to Palmetto Health Richland where he died a little less than an hour after he had been shot.
After thorough investigation and consulting with the 5th Circuit Solicitor's Office, that incident was considered to be in self-defense according to the department.
Autopsy results revealed that he died due to a gunshot wound to the chest.
