One dead after car hits tree, catches fire in Orangeburg Co.

One person is dead after an early morning car crash in Orangeburg County.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 5:30 a.m. near Linda Lane on SC Highway 4.

Highway Patrol said the car was headed west when it went off the right side of the road. The driver overcorrected and went off the left side of the road. According to Highway Patrol, the car hit a tree and caught on fire.

The Orangeburg County Coroner will identify the victim once next of kin is notified. It is not known if the victim was wearing a seatbelt.

SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
