Rate decrease for SCE&G customers to continue, South Carolina AG Office says
COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) – The rate decreases for South Carolina Electric and Gas customers passed by the state legislature will now continue, according to the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office.
The U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals denied SCE&G’s motion to stop the rate decreases Friday while a court battle over it continues.
The Court also denied SCE&G’s request to speed-up that lawsuit, denied the company’s request to dismiss it and allowed Attorney General Alan Wilson to file friend-of-the-court briefs in the case.
“This is another big win for SCE&G ratepayers,” Wilson said. “We’ve argued that customers should not have to pay billions of dollars for a hole in the ground. The U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals recognized that it would be inappropriate to halt the General Assembly’s reduction of customers’ rates.”
