'It's very bizarre:' Deputy describes car theft, carjacking at Columbia gas station

The Richland County Sheriff's Department is requesting the public's assistance identifying two suspects wanted for motor vehicle theft.

According to deputies the incident occurred just before 8 p.m. Friday at the Obama gas station on North Main Street.

Video surveillance captured the owner of a Chevy Tahoe parking his car in front of the store. The man left the car running while he went inside to make a purchase.

While inside, two men who were standing on the side of the building, possibly juveniles, managed to jump inside of the Tahoe and drove away.

Once the owner of the Tahoe realized his vehicle was stolen he then jumped into another car in an effort to find the Tahoe that had been stolen.

The Tahoe was found a short time later at the 100 block of Lorick Avenue after being involved in a crash.

The video was captured on video surveillance and aired on Live PD. If you recognize the men in the video you are urged to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
