Richland Co. Coroner identifies woman killed in hit-and-run
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) —
The Richland County Coroner's Office has released the identity of the woman killed after a hit-and-run on Thursday.
Edwina Walker, 58, of Columbia, SC, died after being hit by a silver Oldsmobile. Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said the official cause of death was blunt trauma.
On Thursday evening near the 3400 block of Two Notch Road, a GMC Yukon hit Walker and a 54-year-old man while they drove a moped. The driver of the GMC Yukon fled the scene. The Columbia Police Department said William Washington, 72, then drove his Oldsmobile through the scene and ran over Walker before driving off. She died from her injuries on Friday night.
Officers arrested Washington on Friday and charged him with felony hit-and-run and failure to render aid and provide information. He appeared in bond court on Saturday, where a judge set his bond at $100,000.
CPD is still searching for the driver of the GMC Yukon. Anyone with information should contact Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
