Richland Co. seeking suspects in roadside robbery

Thieves break into popular Columbia coffee shop over the weekend

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WACH) - The Richland County Sheriff's Department needs the public's assistance in identifying two suspects from an armed robbery earlier this week.

On August 8, deputies responded to an armed robbery call around 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of I-20 and Monticello Road. The victim, while waiting for assistance after his vehicle broke down, was approached by two unknown males. One suspect had an assault rifle, while the other had a handgun.

The suspect stole the victim's cell phone and wallet. According to Sheriff Leon Lott, the suspects threatened to shoot the victim; he ran across the street to escape and heard gunfire. When he returned after the suspects fled, the victim discovered bullet holes in his vehicle.

One suspect has been described as a light-skinned black male with a beard. He has a stocky build and a tattoo on the right side of his neck of red lips.
