RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WACH) — The Richland County Coroner's Office has identified a man shot in self-defense on Sunday.

Coroner Naida Rutherford identified Antwan Ashley, 41, of Columbia as the shooting victim.

“We will continue working with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department to fully investigate this shooting,” said Coroner Rutherford.

Ashley was shot after he followed a woman to her home, aggressively approached her and attempted to hit her, according to officials.

Officials say the woman had an active order of protection against the man who was shot, due to a history of domestic violence.

The homicide was deemed as justified by the Richland County Sheriff's Department.
