COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) – A 13-year-old is now being charged after a shooting incident involving students who go to Hand Middle School, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
The juvenile is charged with attempted murder, first-degree burglary, petty larceny and unlawful carrying of a pistol, according to the department.
The teen is accused of shooting at another student. The teen then boarded the school bus unarmed before he was removed by a Richland County deputy.
The shooting happened Monday, Dec. 3 in the area of Starboard Way and Spindrift Lane, not on school grounds, according to the department.
An investigation showed the teen had stolen the gun from a family member after breaking into the family member’s home. The gun was found by the teen’s mother in her home and she turned it over to the department.
