Teen charged in shooting death of Columbia mother

Kershawn Johnson (Columbia Police Dept.)

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) - Columbia police say they have arrested a teenager in the August shooting death of a Columbia woman.

Kershawn Johnson, 18, is being held on murder charges in the death of Brenda Jackson.

In early August, investigators say Johnson shot and killed the 52-year-old mother. Jackson's body was found behind Rehoboth Restoration Church on Koon Road in Columbia.

Last month, Jackson's daughters told WACH Fox News their mother was their best friend and "everything you would want a mom to be."

Investigators haven't released a motive in the shooting.

Kershawn Johnson is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
