Threat made to middle school in Sumter found not credible
SUMTER COUNTY, SC (WACH) – The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an alleged threat made to a middle school, but says the threat is “not credible.”
The investigation showed that a student at Hillcrest Middle School made a comment to another student on Thursday and that student told a parent.
Emails were then sent between parents and it was alleged the threat had been made against the school.
The student was quickly identified, however, and admitted making the statement, although the student claimed it was in “reference to something else.”
“Unfortunately, any time there is a report of a threat we must take it seriously,” said Sumter County Sheriff Anthony Dennis. “This is dangerous because it ties up law enforcement assets that could be used to try to solve and prevent real crimes.
Dennis praised the quick action of the school district once the threat was discovered.
