Tropical Storm Chantal churning in the Atlantic

Columbia (WACH/NHC) -- Tropical Storm Chantal developed Sunday night in the Atlantic Ocean.

As of 11:00 Tuesday night Chantal was passing south of Puerto Rico and moving west-northwest at 28 mph with winds of 60 mph.

A Hurricane Watch is in effect for parts of the Dominican Republic and Barahona.

Tropical Storm Warnings are in effect for Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Turks and Caicos, and the southeastern Bahamas.

Tropical Storm Watches are in effect for the U.S. Virgin Islands, Vieques and Culebra, and the central Bahamas.

All forecast models continue to agree that Chantal will remain south of the Palmetto State.
