Claflin alum struck, killed during homecoming weekend
ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WACH)-- During homecoming weekend, Claflin University mourned the loss of a former student killed in a car accident.
A motor vehicle collision occurred Saturday night at the corner of Ellis Avenue and Boulevard Street in Orangeburg when a vehicle struck 23-year-old Myles Holland's vehicle.
Holland and a female passenger were both transported to a local hospital where Holland died of internal bleeding with massive blunt force injuries due to the accident. The passenger remains in the hospital with injuries.
An Orangeburg man is facing two felony DUI charges after the crash.
Police say 35-year-old Torbert Mack failed to obey a traffic light and ran into Holland.
Holland was a 2017 graduate of Claflin and a member of the Lambda Sigma chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.
A native of Sumter he attended Crestwood High School.
This is the second student that attended the university to have passed away this month.
Earlier this month Dravious Terry passed after he was shot and killed by his roommate.
