Where and when President Trump will be in the Midlands
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) – The time and location of President Donald Trump's visit to the Midlands has been set.
Trump will attend a campaign rally for Gov. Henry McMaster at Airport High School on Monday at 6 p.m.
The rally comes just hours before the polls open for McMaster's runoff for the GOP nomination against Greenville businessman John Warren.
On Tuesday night, McMaster and Warren faced off in their only debate ahead of the June 12 primary runoff. The winner faces Democratic state Rep. James Smith in November's general election.
During the televised debate, McMaster stressed his decades of experience as a former lieutenant governor and prosecutor, while pointing out Warren's lack of political experience.
Warren countered by saying his success in business shows he has the know how to effectively manage the state. He also pointed that McMaster supported President Trump during his campaign for the White House despite the fact Trump was a political outsider.
The Trump visit is payback for McMaster's early support for him during his presidential run.
President Trump has been vocal on social media about looking forward "to reciprocating" and tweeting in part on Thursday, "Henry McMaster has done a great job as Governor of South Carolina. The state is BOOMING, with jobs and new industry setting records."
Monday's campaign really is free and open to the public. The doors open at 4 p.m.
