COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) -- The woman run over after being knocked off a moped on Two Notch Road Thursday night has died.

Columbia Police announced the news Friday night, but it will be up to the Richland County Coroner to identify the woman. No news on when that announcement will come, however.

Seventy-two-year-old William Washington was arrested Friday as the person accused of running the woman over. Washington is charged with felony hit-and-run and failure to render aid and providing information.

Two passengers, a 54-year-old man and the 58-year-old woman were hit from behind by a GMC Yukon shortly after 5:30 p.m. Thursday on the 3400 block of Two Notch Road.

After the initial collision, which caused both victims to be ejected from the moped, Washington's silver, older model Oldsmobile ran over the female, causing the death and then left the scene.

The Oldsmobile has been recovered, but police are still looking for the driver of the Yukon.

The male victim was not seriously injured.

Citizens with information about the crime are encouraged to contact Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
