Bowl Eligible Gamecocks Want More

A year ago, the South Carolina Gamecocks went into their bye week 2-4 on the season. When Jake Bentley became their starting quarterback, the Gamecocks' level famously rose and they got six wins and went on to the Birmingham Bowl.

A year ago, when the Gamecocks got that sixth win, there was excitement in the air at Williams-Brice Stadium. But, after the Gamecocks' 34-27 win over Vanderbilt that made them 6-2 on the season, it was business as usual.

After all, South Carolina still has four games left to play and they are hungry for more.

"I don't wanna downplay the importance of making it to a bowl game," Bentley said. "That's obviously something that's a big deal for us, but we also know we got a lot more games to play and bigger goals to achieve as well."

Offensive lineman Zack Bailey played his first game coming back from injury and said, as exciting as becoming bowl eligible is, they know they have a huge challenge in one week against a top-4 team in Georgia.

"We can't take that lightly," Bailey said. "They've got a great team and it's gonna be a drag out so we'll be fighting to the end with them."

The Gamecocks still have four games remaining on the schedule. Next week's match up vs Georgia is their last road game with their final three games, including the regular season finale against Clemson, all at Williams-Brice Stadium.
