No NIT for South Carolina men's basketball team

A lot can change in the span of a year.

Just 12 months ago, the South Carolina men's basketball team was in the middle of a magical Final Four run at the NCAA tournament. The first time in program history that happened.

But after losing stars Sindarius Thornwell, PJ Dozier, and Duane Notice (along with the suspension of Rah Felder), the Gamecocks struggled in the 2017-2018 season.

The Gamecocks lost to Arkansas in the 2nd round of the SEC tournament leaving their record at 17-16 going into March Madness.

While most knew they wouldn't make the NCAA tournament, most felt they had a great chance at making the NIT (the tournament just below the NCAA tournament).

On Sunday night, however, the NIT bracket was released and South Carolina was nowhere to be found. SEC teams Mississippi State and LSU did make the tournament.

This means the Gamecocks' season is over and they will finish with a record of 17-16. The South Carolina women's basketball team will find out their tournament seeding and placement on Monday night.
