Gaffney beats Lexington in OT to win 4A boys title

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Gaffney used a frantic rally to force overtime, then hung on to win its fifth boys high school state championship in the last 10 years with a 58-55 victory over Lexington Friday night at the Colonial Life Arena in the Class 4A title game.

The Indians took the lead for good on the second possession of overtime on a basket by Colby McDowell and made their free throws down the stretch.

L.J. Peak scored 22 points and Quinshad Davis added 15 to lead Gaffney (23-5), but both fouled out.

Lexington (24-6) led by as many as seven points in the fourth quarter and had a chance to win it in regulation but Shaq Roland, who scored 19 points, missed two free throws with 10 seconds remaining. He fouled Peak 3 seconds later and the sophomore made both free throws with 7 seconds left to force OT.
