Heathwood Hall names Danny Lewis as next football coach
COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) -- Lexington native Danny Lewis will be named the next head football coach at Heathwood Hall.
A Charleston Southern alum, Lewis served as Heathwood's strength and condition coach as well as an assistant football coach for the varsity team from 1996-98. Since then, he has coached at numerous colleges including the University of South Carolina, The Citadel, Newberry, Middle Tennessee State and currently South Carolina State, where he just completed his eighth season with the Bulldogs.
This past season he served as SC State's offensive coordinator and coached the quarterbacks. In addition, he's also been the team's recruiting coordinator.
Lewis will be the third head football coach named in three years for the Highlanders, and will follow in the footsteps of South Carolina great Marcus Lattimore who was named USC's Director of Player of Development last month.
Heathwood will officially introduce Lewis as the Highlander's next coach this Friday at 9:40 AM at Heathwood High.
