WACH: Blythewood Bengals HS football 2017 preview

BLYTHEWOOD, SC (WACH) -- While most public schools began football practices on Friday, the Blythewood Bengals kicked off camp in a different way. Instead, first-year head coach Brian Smith took his team out to paintball in West Columbia before holding a BBQ in an effort to build team chemistry.

"To me it's more important to have team chemistry than to be out here on the field on certain days," explained Smith, who took over as head coach this past spring. "Our guys are ready - they've been prepared all summer."

Smith says fans may not be accustomed to seeing the Bengals run the ball as much as they have in years past but added the team wants to be known as a physical group on both sides of the football.

Blythewood kicks off the season on the road in Week 0 against Rock Hill on Aug. 18.
