Chase Elliott excited to drive throwback car modeled after his dad

Chase Elliott will drive a baby blue card like his dad's 1976 No. 9

DARLINGTON, SC (WACH)- The Bojangles Southern 500 is back in South Carolina this Labor Day Weekend and for the third straight year, the race is incorporating its award-winning throwback campaign.

A total of 32 teams from the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series designed their cars to reflect the 1985-1989 era.

Chase Elliott is one of the drivers who went "all out" for the throwback weekend by honoring his dad, former NASCAR driver, Bill Elliott. Chase used themes from his dad's 1976 No. 9 Ford Torino.

Elliott told WACH FOX, "The cool part about the car this weekend is it's not really a car people identify him with... A lot of people don't know he ran a baby blue car."

Chase also said his dad's knowledge of the car is "really cool".
