Solid Orange: A defensive debate

The Solid Orange crew compares Miami and Clemson's defense this week as both teams get ready for the ACC Championship.

As the No. 1 Clemson Tigers get ready to take on the No. 7 Miami Hurricanes our crew had one big question to answer: Who has the better defense?

Miami's defense has become popular due to their flashy "Turnover Chain". However, as Solid Orange analyst Zach Lentz points out, in reality it is the Clemson defense that has been more impressive.

In "Stats with Zach", Lentz provides the numbers to back up the claim, as the Hurricanes rank 41st in the nation in total defense, but the Tigers sit 6th in the category. When it comes to rush defense, the Tigers are ranked 14th and the Hurricanes are 65th. Clemson is 9th in the nation in pass defense, while Miami is 44th.

Clemson even outdoes Miami in scoring defense, as the Tigers are 4th compared to Miami at 14th.

The question will really be answered this Saturday night as the Tigers and Canes face off in the ACC Championship game in Charlotte. Clemson looks to win its third consecutive conference title while Miami hopes to capture its first.

"Solid Orange" airs on Wednesday nights at 11 pm ET on WACH FOX.
