COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) -- Former South Carolina basketball captain Carey Rich was inducted tonight into the Richland Hall of Fame.

A product of C.A. Johnson, Rich went on to have a successful college basketball career with the Gamecocks creating a platform he says that's allowed him to give back to so many.

"While basketball has always been the platform that allowed me to spread my message, it's always been bigger than basketball," explained Rich, who played for USC from 1992-95.

"I often tease about playing the position of point guard. You don't play the position of point guard, you live the position of point guard. One of the major components that comes along with playing that potion is making it easier for those around you. Making it easier for your teammates and being that communicator. Ultimately, that's who I am."

The Captain was one of five inductees this evening, which included Ruth H. Black, Regina Hampton Brown, Brigadier General John M. Motley, Jr and Colonel Walter L. Watson, Jr.
